It’s Throwback Thursday at FWAB. Remember this post? February 2012!

This months guest designer is ***Jeni O’Connor***
After admiring the lovely Jeni O’Connors layouts on Scrapbook.com and in Scrapbook Creations and Scrapbooking Memories magazines over the last few years, we are very excited to be sharing with you Jeni’s guest DT work for Flourish with a Bling.

Here’s a little bit about Jeni –

I’m Jeni and I am thrilled to be invited as this month’s guest designer here at Flourish with a Bling. I’ve had the opportunity to work with FWAB products for a while now and just love them.
I’m Aussie with a Canadian dh, so we get to spend time in two beautiful countries. We have twins, a boy and girl and a dog, Buddy.

Inspired by my Grandma’s talent for crafts, I’ve always loved to create in some form or another. I’ve been a scrapbooker forever, lol. Even as a child I would take photos and write stories about them. I’ve been scrapbooking as we know it today for about 15 years. Although in the early days all we had were stickers! My style has changed over that time and with so many influences and fabulous products. Today, I have two distinctly different styles, Storybook/whimsical style usually in 3d, where I love to extend the photo and create a scene. I also like to create in a Shabby/arty/, sometimes messy kind of style.

I have been lucky to have had many opportunities in scrapbooking. For the past 5 yrs I’ve been a design team member on the Colour Team for Scrapbook Creations. I’ve also authored regular features and three year long series of published articles, “What’s Your Style?”and “Scrapping with the Stars” (astrology and scrapping) and “Reality Bites” (scrapping about real life issues). My most recent feature was on Mixed Media and scrapping.

I’ve been published in the Australian magazines Scrapbook Creations, Scrapbooking Memories and For Keeps. Internationally in Canadian Scrapbooker, Memory Makers, and Creating Keepsakes. I was also a tutor at the Australian Scrapbooking Convention. I’ve been on a number of design teams over the years, including Manor House Creations and Once Upon a Sketch currently and previously Dusty Attic and My Creative Scrapbook (US)

I’m a Midwife and Teacher by professions when I’m not scrapping. I’d like to say I’m a domestic engineer, but I’m not really all that domesticated…I’d rather be scrapping!

I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to share my creations with you.

In this bright and fun beach layout above, Jeni has used one of the FWAB silver corner flourishes from the Kate’s corner flourish set, beach huts and flag from Nicky’s beach huts, and baby blue Chloe pearl flourishes.

What an enchanting and whimsical layout…so perfect for using the FWAB Taylah’s toadstools, Lee’s tree and grass set, Trent’s fence and a pink Jasmine laser flourish. Just magical….you could almost think Jeni’s twins were actually sitting there amongst the flowers and toadstools in a beautiful garden!

Jeni has used the FWAB Teal Luke flourish and teal pearls from the 100 pearl packs for this gorgeous layout of her son. Love all the misting and masking too, so effective to grunge up a boys layout.

What a beautiful photo of Jeni’s twins …and a stunning layout to show it off. Jeni has used the new olive green Chloe pearl flourishes which go perfectly with all the greenery of the flowers and chipboard fence…..just stunning.

BBcard1a

What a beautiful card…Jeni has used the FWAB olive green Jack vine and cut it up to suit, as well as copper pearls from the 100 pearl packs….who wouldn’t be absolutely thrilled to receive that card!

I asked Jeni just a few questions –

What has been the most exciting part of being in this industry?

I’ve loved being a part of an industry that has evolved over many years. There’s always fresh, new ideas and products to inspire us. The creative talent just keeps getting better, blurring the boundries between so many of the other arts and crafts. I love inspiring other scrappers and being inspired by them on our creative journey.

What is your favourite technique or tool at the moment?

Techniques seem to go in cycles, every few years an “oldie” gets recycled back into fashion. I’ve always added inks, paints, mists or waxes to my pages. As for tools, I’ve not one for investing in the latest tools or equipment. My scissors are my best scrapping friends.

What is the process you use to create a layout?

LOL. This question is a challenge as I’m not sure I really have a process. I think it all starts out in my mind with a creative thought. Usually, I can visualise how I want my page to look and it just seems to take shape from there. Although, I’m a terrible fiddler and will often move things around until they feel right. Most of my ideas are inspired by the images around me and the designs and patterns on paper. Prior to being on the team at Once Upon a Sketch, I’d never really given much thought to using a sketch as a starting point. Now I love it when I have a plan to work from. They really are a great way to map your ideas.

A very big thank you to Jeni for creating such amazing works of art for us here at Flourish with a Bling and for making our products look absolutely amazing. If you too are left wanting to see more, then please remember to check out Jeni’s blog here to see more of Jeni’s beautiful work…you’ll be inspired!

Happy scrapping everyone,

Maggie and the FWAB team
